    Psoriasis and plaquenil

Antimalarials are usually given as one or two pills, once a day. Side effects include vision changes (blurring, halos around lights and sensitivity to light), headache, dizziness, nausea and vomiting. Individuals taking an antimalarial should have eye examinations periodically.

Psoriasis is found among people who take Plaquenil, especially for people who are female, 60+ old, have been taking the drug for 1 - 6 months, also take medication Humira, and have Psoriatic arthropathy. May 29, 2019 Antimalarials Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine, Quinacrine mepacrine, and chloroquine, used to treat malaria and autoimmune disorders like lupus or rheumatoid arthritis, can induce flares in over 30 percent of people with psoriasis who take them. If it made your psoriasis worse, did your psoriasis get back to its pre-Plaquenil state after you stopped the Plaquenil? I'm considering Plaquenil for my next drug to try. I have PsA but also have Sjogren's Syndrome, and Plaquenil works well for many with Sjogren's Syndrome.

The use of Plaquenil may cause a severe flare of psoriasis. Unless you are directed to do so by your doctor, do not take Plaquenil, the most commonly prescribed antimalarial.

  5. This is a case where Plaquenil likely triggered new-onset psoriasis in a patient who was genetically susceptible. There are several other drugs that would likely be beneficial for both diseases by virtue of their anti-inflammatory or immunosuppressive effects, namely, acitretin Soriatane.

A biopsy of the plaque-like lesion of the back was consistent with psoriasis. The skin findings and histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of psoriasis. The joint examination, fingernail findings and periosteal reaction on hand radiograph were suggestive of symmetric polyarthritis secondary to psoriatic arthritis. Lithium aggravates psoriasis in about half of those with psoriasis who take it. Antimalarials Plaquenil, Quinacrine, chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine may cause a flare of psoriasis, usually two to three weeks after the drug is taken. Hydroxychloroquine is the least likely to cause side effects. Background Antimalarials have been reported to worsen preexisting psoriasis, therefore is commonly avoided by the clinicians in the treatment of psoriatic arthritis PsA. With the lack of any solid evidence, this precludes the potential use of hydroxychloroquine HQ as a part of the treatment.
